We need to replace the idea that learning ability is fixed with the recognition that we are all on a growth journey.

I was born and raised in Sitka, Alaska, a small, rainy town where there isn't much to do that isn't in the mountains or on the ocean. As a result, I have a deep love of being outdoors and enjoy being outdoors to read, garden, run, and camp with my husband and two daughters in my free time. After graduating from Sitka High School, I attended James Madison University (BMus) and the University of Colorado at Boulder (MM) before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana for two years. While in New Orleans, I became interested in joining the field of public education, and returned to Colorado to began my teaching career with Denver Public Schools in 2013.
Over the years I have taught both 8th grade Algebra and 7th grade pre-Algebra, and I have developed a strong belief that students succeed best when mathematics allows them to ask questions and make discoveries. Middle school students have a unique perspective on the world and, as a result, have a great capacity for creative problem solving which is the heart of mathematics. Every year I work in education I learn new and intriguing ways of thinking about complex problems, and I am excited to be continuing this work alongside my students at Denver Green School for the 2023-2024 school year.
