Meet Mr Balch
"The true spirit of delight, the exaltation, the sense of being more than Man, which is the touchstone of the highest excellence is to be found in mathematics as surely as in poetry." ~ Bertrand Russel (1872-1970)
I was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and graduated from Sandia High School. After high school, I attended the University of New Mexico and graduated Cum Laude with a double major in Mathematics (BS) and History (BA). I also attended UNM for my Masters in Secondary Education which I completed in the spring of 2011.
This is my seventh year teaching and my third year at DGS. I have taught at Garfield Middle School in Albuquerque as an intern educator teaching 8th grade Connected Mathematics. After my intern year, I spent three years working at Moriarty High School teaching 9-12 mathematics. From my experiences in teaching mathematics, I have become even more dedicated to hands-on, brains-on constructivist learning. I am excited to be back at the Denver Green School for another great year of math learning!
In my life outside of teaching I enjoy playing hockey, hiking, kayaking, camping, horse back riding and volunteering at YMCA Camp Shaver. Camp Shaver is where I first developed my love for the outdoors as well as my love for teaching. In 2014 I started a masters degree program at Colorado State University in Applied Statistics.
